Sources: Jerry Falwell Jr. to Propose Changing Liberty Mission Statement to “Training Champions for Trump”
Lynchburg, VA – Flush from the success of a historic, landmark commencement milestone that featured President Donald Trump as the historic, landmark speaker, university president Jerry Falwell Jr. is considering a change to the university’s longstanding motto, according to sources.
Liberty University’s 2017 Commencement ceremonies broke attendance records with a nearly 33% increase over the previous high-number thanks to an increased interest due to President Trump’s participation. In addition to transforming most of the festivities into extended commercials for the already-elected President, Falwell is reportedly considering fully embracing the trend by changing the school’s mission statement from “Training Champions for Christ” to “Training Champions for Trump.”
“We mentioned Christ and the Gospel at our commencement for forty-three straight years and not much happened,” Falwell reportedly said in a closed-door meeting with trustees. “But this year we mostly ignored those things and made it all about Trump and had tremendous success. I think there’s a lesson to be learned here.”
No word on if the motto would also be changed from “Knowledge Aflame” to “Pants Aflame.”
